How is it calculated?
Your number is your annual spending, grown with inflation until the age you want to retire, divided by the withdrawal rate. At 4%, that is 25 times what you will spend in a year at that age.
Your savings grow every year with the return you chose plus what you invest. Your actual retirement age is the moment your savings reach the number you would need at that age.
After retiring, each year you withdraw your spending adjusted for inflation and the rest keeps earning. That is how the calculator estimates how long your money lasts.
This calculator is educational and uses simple assumptions: constant returns, no explicit taxes or fees. It does not replace advice from a certified professional.
